We cover the entire range of ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) pumps and modules manufactured by ATE and have been doing so for many years. Our bespoke Hardware-In-the-Loop test rigs allow us to run all these ABS units under real-world load and driving conditions, both before and after rebuild.
The ATE product philosophy is that: 'Safety systems must be affordable, and that in itself will increase the individual and overall degree of driving safety'. However mass production comes with inherent quality problems and ATE ABS pump and modules certainly do have their share of common issues.
The ATE range is extensive with many versions including MK10, MK20, MK25, MK25E, MK48, MK60, MK61, MK70 and MK100.
These are commonly fitted by the majority of vehicle manufacturers to a vast range of models. Click on the system types below for more information.
MK10
This early ABS pump and module was mainly fitted to BMW and Mercedes models between the years 1994 and 2007. When this ABS pump and fails it will generally illuminate the ESP, BAS and ABS warning light and log a fault for the high pressure pump.

C1401 - High Pressure Pump Open Circuit/Short Circuit
071 – Pump motor failure
113 – Pump motor malfunction

MK20
These MK20 ATE ABS pumps are known for suffering with faults for pump motor and wheel speed sensor issues which will illuminate the ABS warning light, when internal malfunction progresses there may be no communications at all to the ABS module. Failure of this type of ABS unit will not only cause the ABS warning light to be illuminated, but we also see a beginning to ABS failure affecting other functionality on the vehicle, noticeably preventing the speedometer working. More information on the Volvo MK25 ABS fault can be found here.

This version of the MK25 predominantly effects the Volkswagen Transporter T5 (click for detailed information) and causes warning lights, loss of the speedometer and may also cause the fuel gauge to fluctuate.

00290 – ABS wheel speed sensor rear left
01130 – ABS operation implausible signal
01276 – ABS hydraulic pump V64 malfunction

This iteration was not widely used compared to the other system types which makes them incredibly difficult to source for replacement. However we can rebuild these, commonly seeing them in for wheel speed sensor fault codes and pump motor issues.

MK61
This successor to the previous ABS pump and module was used for over a decade and fitted to numerous makes and models, however it too has its defects. Most failures detail a breakdown in the pump motor or inbuilt ECU and will cause constant illumination of the ABS warning light. The MK70 ABS is another system type that is common for loss of communication, consequently preventing the dashboard speedometer from working. Further information can be found here for Peugeot 207 and Ford Fiesta

Commonly this ABS system type will cause brake binding on the BMW 1 Series (click for more information) for other models standard braking will still be in affect but the ABS and ESP warning lights will be illuminated.

If you have one of these ATE ABS units and would like to send it for testing and repair:
Package the ATE ABS unit inside a sturdy box with plenty of packaging material (make sure you include your confirmation email in the box).
Send us your package by tracked courier (the shipping instructions are on the confirmation email).
Once received, we will test your ABS and call you to advise on the outcome of testing, if your unit is faulty and you choose to go ahead with the rebuild then we will take payment over the phone using a debit/credit card.
We will then rebuild your ABS pump and module and return it to you with an unlimited mileage warranty.
