Dodge Ram 2500 fuel pump problems (also fitted to the Ram 3500) are caused by failure of the EDC (Electronic Diesel Control unit), this is the VP44 injection pump control module that sits on top of the pump.
Fitted to the second-generation Ram 5.9L Cummins straight 6 turbo diesel engines, this VP44 Cummins combo seemed to be a force to be reckoned with. That was of course, until the pump EDC began failing in droves.
The EDC causes the vast majority of faults, due to internal component malfunction, including cutting out and a failure to restart again.
