This is a very common problem for all Ford vehicles with the 1.8 DI, 2.0 TDDI & 2.4 Duratorque engines built between 1999 and 2006.

Often when driving the vehicle will cut out and fail to start again at any stage until the fault is rectified. This fault will immediatley make the vehicle unusable. When having the fault diagnosed fault codes will often be found relating to fuel pump malfunction, timing control and reduced fuelling, all of which are clear indications that the diesel pump EDC has failed.

The mechanical side of the pump is usually very reliable and gives very few problems, nearly all of the faults we see are caused by the Electronic Diesel Control unit (EDC) located on the top of the diesel pump.

Because these EDC’s are not available to purchase separately from manufacturer, you may think that you will need to purchase a full replacement diesel pump.

Our solution is much more cost-effective: send us your EDC for rebuild. There will be no need for coding when you receive this back from us either.

Please note that we only test the EDC on top of the pump, we cannot test the mechanical part of the pump.

These Bosch VP44 diesel pumps can be difficult and very time consuming to remove and reinstall to the vehicle, we recommend any removal/reinstall be performed by a trained technician ideally with previous experience of these pumps. Attempting to run these pumps when they are drained of fuel can seriously damage the mechanical side of the pump.
