This is a very common problem for all Vauxhall vehicles with the 1.7 DI / 2.0 DTI / 2.2 DTI diesel engines built between 1998 and 2005. If the vehicle is running at the time of the fault the engine will simply cut out, no matter if at idle or travelling at speed. Trying to restart the engine will be impossible.

The mechanical side of the pump is usually very reliable and gives very few problems, nearly all of the faults we see are caused by the Electronic Diesel Control unit (EDC) located on the top of the diesel pump. Failure of the EDC will also log fault codes for fuel injection malfunction.

The EDC is not available to purchase separately from the pump, so you will have to order a full diesel pump setup from the manufacturer just to get the EDC.

Please note that we only test the EDC on top of the pump, we cannot test the mechanical part of the pump.

These Bosch VP44 diesel pumps can be difficult and very time consuming to remove and reinstall to the vehicle, we recommend any removal and installation is performed by a trained technician, especially if they have previous experience of these pumps. Attempting to run these pumps when they are drained of fuel can seriously damage the mechanical side of the pump.
