This is a very common problem for all VW Passat vehicles with the 2.5 TDI V6 engines built between 1998 and 2003. When the vehicle is running failure of the VP44 EDC will cause the engine to cut out, on idle or while driving. Internal malfunction of the EDC will also prevent the vehicle from starting again until the fault has been rectified. Codes may be stored for injection begin error and injection pump malfunction.
