Fiat Ducato ABS pump - common fault
This ABS pump is a very common fault for the Fiat Ducato built between 2011 and 2014. When the ABS pump fails it will cause the speedometer to completely fail along with warning messages on the instrument cluster for ‘ABS unavailable’ and ‘EBD Failure’, this will also cause the Engine Management light to illuminate at the same time. The vehicle may also go into ‘Limp Mode’, restricting the power output of the engine.
When performing a diagnostic check, you will notice that the ABS system has no fault codes stored, but the engine system will report a fault code of 'P0500 – Vehicle Speed Sensor’, this fault code is generated not because the vehicle speed sensor is faulty but because the faulty ABS system no longer passes vehicle speed information to the engine ECU.
This fault normally starts out by coming and going at irregular intervals, but then becomes more permanent if left unresolved for long enough.
