Ford Fiesta 2002 – 2008 Speedo not working and loss of mileage

This is another common problem for the Fiesta Mk VI causing the speedo and mileage display to drop off intermittently. The speedo gauge will drop to zero, whether the vehicle is moving or not, and the mileage display will show dashes (-------) on the dashboard cluster LCD instead of the correct mileage.

There are two common causes of this fault, the cause will depend on the version of Fiesta you are driving and whether it is factory fitted with ABS or not.

Cause of fault for Fiesta with ABS

The common cause of this fault for the version with ABS is failure of the actual ABS Pump/module itself, this will normally cause permanent loss of speedo and mileage display. If you have the vehicle diagnosed then you may notice that the ABS module does not communicate via diagnostic.

Cause of fault for Fiesta without ABS

The common cause of this fault for the version without ABS is failure of the engine ECU, this will cause intermittent or permanent failure of the speedo and loss of mileage display. If you get the vehicle diagnosed then you will get the following fault codes stored within the instrument cluster: ‘U2200 - Invalid Odometer Count Data’ and ‘U2197 - Invalid Vehicle Speed Data’ the presence of these two fault codes within the instrument cluster will indicate a definite fault with the engine ECU.

Package the ABS or engine ECU inside a sturdy box with plenty of packaging material (make sure you include your confirmation email in the box).
